Ajahn Jayasaro
|

Introduction:

The Pure Land Assembly is deeply grateful and honored to welcome Ajahn Jayasaro to give a Dhamma talk this year.
Ajahn Jayasaro was born on the Isle of Wight, England, in 1958. In 1978, he became a disciple of the renowned Thai Buddhist monk and meditation master Ajahn Chah at Wat Pah Pong in northeastern Thailand, and received full ordination from him in 1980. From 1997 to 2002, he served as abbot of Wat Pah Nanachat, the International Forest Monastery founded by Ajahn Chah.
In July 2026, His Majesty the King of Thailand granted Ajahn Jayasaro the royal ecclesiastical title Somdet Phra Maha Phatcharayanamuni, making him the first foreign-born monk in Thai history to attain the rank of Somdet.
Ajahn Jayasaro currently resides in seclusion in Thailand. Since 2013, he has visited China annually at the invitation of the Royal Thai Embassy and Consulates. In 2023, he gave lectures at the Buddhist Academy of China in Beijing and participated as a guest in the China–US–Canada Buddhist Forum held in Hangzhou. In 2025, he made his first visit to Hong Kong, where he delivered a series of public talks.
